News: Help Support Maine's Animal Welfare Program - Order New ADOPT License Plate!

The Maine Animal License Plate Team is comprised of the state Animal Welfare Program, Planet Dog, Happy Tails, the Animal Refuge League, and the Animal Welfare Society. These organizations have joined forces to initiate an ADOPT specialty plate for Maine. The plate will highlight the need for and joys of adopting from an animal shelter and ALL proceeds from the plate will go to support the Animal Welfare Program. The Animal Welfare Program administers the Help Fix ME low-income spay/neuter program, investigates animal abuse, inspects kennels, shelters, and breeders, conducts seizures of neglected and abused animals, and trains Animal Control Officers. It does not receive any money from the General Fund, and after several large, well-publicized puppy mill seizures last year, is in need of an additional funding source. In order to prove to the Legislature that Mainers care about animal welfare, 2,000 people are needed to prepay $25 for a license plate by September 1, 2008. As of September 2, 2008, about 1750 had been ordered! Please help the animals and show the legislature that animal welfare is a priority in Maine. Order your plate today through the link provided below or visit the Planet Dog website to place your order at www.planetdog.com.
